Chinese New Year or Spring Festival is the most important of the traditional Chinese holidays. It is often called the Lunar New Year, especially by people in mainland China and Taiwan. Today it was Washington DC where this Chinese holiday parade was held.

Woodbridge’s Fitzgerald Elementary Opens With Grand Ceremony

School leaders said Fannie W. Fitzgerald Elementary School is the Neabsco District’s first new elementary school in 30 years. On hand for the opening was Fannie W. Fitzgerald herself (at right in top picture) — the school’s namesake as well as her daughter, Benita Fitzgerald (fourth picture). The school sits on a road named after the younger Fitzgerald, who won an Olympic gold medal in the ‘84 Olympics. Standing by the ribbon is third-grade teacher William J. Lyon (fifth picture).The school also had a come meet your kids teacher day and I’m proud to show my son getting to meet his new kindergarten teachers.

‘America’s Next Top Model’ Casting Call

“America’s Next Top Model” came to town today hosted by CWTV Paul Wharton at Potomac Mills Mall looking for the next top model. Contestants had to be 5â€™7â€ or taller and between ages 18 to 25. Hundreds of young ladies came out trying to be America’s next top model.

For Black History Month, I wanted to showcase some of the black people who I have had the opportunity to meet and photograph. From the victims of Hurricane Katrina to civil rights leaders and protesters to a young couple on their wedding day and to kids who represent our future, I thought these photos and the music by Tonex fit well together. First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City is doing a 30 Hour Famine Feb. 22-23 to raise awareness about worldwide hunger. They asked people to donate old shoes to show the massive number of people who don’t have food to eat.

Snow at Nova

New School in Woodbridge

Brightwood Elementary School, at Cardinal and Benita Fitz Gerald drives in Woodbridge, will be ready to welcome kids next fall. This school is the model for schools that will follow in Virginia, says S.Clark Nigg, of Precision Landscapes based in Manassas, Va.
